My 2015 USAF/USFirst Leadership Experience was incredible. As a sponsor of USFirst, the USAF recognizes that we coaches and mentors have young people on our teams that possess the skills needed in the USAF. We were brought to Colorado Springs to the Air Force Academy to understand the opportunities available to our students.
On Monday, we participated in a character and leadership development seminar. We than toured the mechanical engineering department, the space systems research center, and the aeronautical engineering department. We toured labs, asked questions, and found ourselves amazed by the research at USAFA. We also visited the shop where the cadets build their formula 1 race car.
Tuesday morning, we visited the chapel - a most beautiful, serene sanctuary offering peace. Later, newly-graduated Air Force officers presented a recruitment seminar. Tuesday afternoon we got to see AF training in action at Schriever AFB. We were treated to lunch, welcomed by the 50 Space Wing, and toured areas where members of the USAF use their training to contribute to the defense of the United States.
Wednesday morning, we toured the Falcon fieldhouse.
I would encourage any and all Arkansas coaches/mentors to apply for this opportunity. My travel, lodging, and food were all paid for by the USAF. We had very capable civilian and USAF personnel to guide us, take care of us, and get us where we needed to be.
My deepest thanks to the USAF and USFirst for this experience. This is an adventure I will remember always and share with my students.
